Puppy-sitting

Need to go out of town? We provide puppy-sitting / dog-sitting for any of our adoption family. The rate is $40 per day each. Sorry not available for any dog not adopted from us.

What comes with a puppy?

Our puppies go home to their new families at eight weeks old with AKC paperwork if applicable, health guarantee, electronic ID chip, collar, a favorite toy, a mother-scented blanket, a sample of recommended food, pee pads, flea and tick treatment complete, heart worm medication complete, and veterinary record. Other items and services by request scheduled in advance, such as a crate, your first bag of puppy chow, or pet insurance.

Why Mckinney Goldens?

  • We hand-raise our puppies in our house and back yard. We are NOT a “puppy mill”. Our puppies have their own room in our house and sleep on blankets.
  • At eight weeks old, our puppies are fully ready to go to their new home. They will be mostly pee-pad potty and crate trained with up-to-date vet care and chip.
  • These are the healthiest puppies. They are genetically perfect. They are raised on goat milk and premium chow. They come with a 1-year health guarantee.
  • They each receive individual attention every day. They play outside all day. They have movie time. They LOVE people. They are happy and adventurous.
  • Due to our careful selection of parents, these puppies become calm and attentive adults. They learn quickly. They are people-focused.
  • You can visit their mothers and other relatives to understand what kind of adult they will become. A visit to the stud is available upon request.
  • Our lifetime support commitment begins when you select your puppy. And if you can’t keep your dog, we will re-home for you.

Golden Retrievers are lifetime promise, not a product. They are family. More times than we can count we’ve seen the puppy choose their new family. We believe that God matches each puppy to their new home to show them what unconditional love looks like.

Adoption requirements

Puppy parents must have a yard available to the puppy for play and potty. Golden Retriever puppies are very active for the first 2 years and will require daily play, exercise, walking, and running outdoors. They cannot be alone for longer than four hours when they are under six months old, and cannot be alone longer than eight hours as adults. They should be fed a mix of meat, dog-safe vegetables and fruits, and premium dog grain-free soy-free dog food. We only recommend American Journey meat and sweet potato dog food available from Chewy.com.

Next litter

English Cream and Show Golden colors are available now from two litters available for take home now through April 15. They are going fast. Visit ASAP. The next litter won’t be available until 2027.

Health care

We have Vet and DNA test results for each mother and father available by request. Each puppy will be vet checked and have dew claws removed between 3 and 5 days old. They will have their first puppy shots by 8 weeks old. They will be dewormed by 8 weeks old. They will have an electronic ID chip. They are nursed until 7 weeks old or mom weans them. They’re on a diet of high quality grain-free puppy food supplemented with goat milk.

How are our puppies raised?

Our puppies are raised in our home from birth to adoption. We deliver them at birth ourselves. They are handled and played with every day. We start their socialization and training as soon as their eyes open at 3 weeks old. They are exposed to everything in an active household. They have toys and games. They play with our other adult Golden Retrievers. They go outside for potty and play every day starting at 4 weeks old. We introduce swimming in the warm months at six weeks old. We introduce leash training and crate training at six weeks old. They are trained to use pee pads indoors starting at 3 weeks old, and rarely have indoor accidents by the time they are 8 weeks old because they use pee pads or wait to go outside.

What is the guarantee?

Every puppy goes home with a health guarantee: If a licensed veterinarian determines that the puppy was defective at the time of adoption, we will take the puppy and refund the purchase price. Harming the puppy in any way invalidates the guarantee, including improper diet, lack of play and exercise, exposure to sick animals, or any kind of abuse. We accept all returned puppies, but the purchase price will not be returned without a veterinarian’s written statement that puppy was defective when adopted. Adopters sign the health guarantee before take-home.

Help your dog live to 14 or older

The “secret” to a long lived dog is about eliminating toxins, sustaining full hormones, providing a nutritious diet, and a lifestyle of care and activity.

  • Glyphosate (Round-up) is the leading cause of cancer in dogs. It is on commercial wheat, corn, and soy, which are the primary ingredients in most dog foods. It may be used in your yard and in places you let your dog visit. The more you can eliminate Glyphosate from your dog’s food and environment, the less likely cancer will become. Eliminate all herbicides and pesticides from their environment. American Journey meat and sweet potatoes is a commercial dog food without any corn, wheat, or soy. That’s the only shelf-stable commercial dog food we recommend.
  • Some veterinarians will recommend a dog food containing soy, corn or wheat, and even claim that it’s because the dog needs an amino acid called taurine. The most abundant source of taurine is meats and fish. Dog food companies are adding synthetic taurine to grain-based dog food recognizing that there’s not enough meat in their product to provide this essential amino acid. Meat is the best food to feed your dog, no matter what the dog food companies or vets claim.
  • Feed a diet that is supplemented by natural unprocessed foods. For example, each of our breeding adult females receives one cup of American Journey adult dog food, breakfast and dinner, supplemented with a raw egg or a quarter pound of raw high-fat hamburger, or meat scraps from dinner, and a half cup of nutricost goat milk or bone broth. We sprinkle about ten blueberries on top, and a quarter of an apple. If they gain too much weight, we cut back on the dog food. If they need more weight, we add more meat. If we have a lot of food scraps leftover from dinner, we eliminate dog food entirely. When they are nursing puppies, we feed them American Journey puppy food, the same as the puppies.
  • While systemic insecticides like Nexgard are very effective at preventing diseases from flea or tick bites, there have been reports of liver failure and death from the insecticide. Too much or too frequent administration could be deadly. Do your research. Learn if your neighborhood or the places you take your dog has reports of fleas or ticks. Our philosophy is to avoid administration of toxic insecticides unless the risk of disease is greater than the risk of toxic harm.
  • We encourage you to take your dog outdoors for hikes and swims in lakes and rivers. However, this means more potential exposure to parasites. Products containing fenbendazole like Panacur are very effective anti-parasite medications and yet are very safe. We recommend monthly treatment with Panacur for your active outdoor dog who is swims in lakes and rivers. It’s even safe and effective for people. Do your own research on any anti-parasite medication before you administer to your dog and look for negative side effects.
  • Mosquitos can carry heart worm parasites that can kill a dog. If your dog is exposed to areas with mosquitos, give heart worm medication but don’t over dose. If it’s not necessary, then you might avoid unnecessary medications.
  • Spaying/neutering your dog earlier than 2 years old is like doing the same to a pre-pubescent human child. A dog’s body, like a human, needs full hormones to completely grow and develop. The longer you can avoid spay/neuter, the longer your dog may live. The youngest age for spay/neuter recommended by most vets is 1 year old. However, we recommend no earlier than 2 years old while keeping them away from intact dogs of the opposite sex during a female cycle. Visit with a dog trainer to learn how to avoid the mounting behavior of a stud dog. Consider breeding your female or studding your male. Females love to be puppy mamas, and males become calmer and more “centered”. Females can safely breed younger than 7 years old. Males can mate to ten years old or more.
  • Exercise your dog every day. Play fetch. Take them on car rides. Take them for walks. Take them to lakes and rivers and hikes. Take them downtown. Take them to shops and stores that allow dogs. Take your puppy to puppy training. Take your 9 month old dog to advanced training. Take them to duck dog training. Go hunting with them. Sharing your active lifestyle with them creates a bond between you and your dog that has more rewards than just health. Communication becomes effortless. They show you the unconditional love of God.
